The fish is one of those in early training. As time goes on, the popcorn on a line is removed and becomes a conductors wand which directes the fish. Later, the wand is gone and everything is done in pure empathy for one another. In parades and exhibitions, the wand is always a part of the uniform thought totally unnecessary. It just looks good.
